Char Dham Yatra

Char Dham Yatra

Uttarakhand’s Garhwal region, high in the Garhwali Himalayas, is home to some of Hinduism’s most sacred sites, collectively known as the Chota Chardham. This revered circuit includes Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, each marking the spiritual origins of four holy rivers – the Ganga, Yamuna, Alaknanda, and Mandakini.

Every year, thousands of devotees undertake this pilgrimage between April and November, braving challenging mountain trails and unpredictable weather to seek blessings. The Chardham pilgrimage was systematized in the 8th century by Adi Shankaracharya, a great philosopher and reformer, whose vision has guided generations of devotees.

The Chardham circuit is active primarily from April to early November, when the temples welcome pilgrims. During the winter months, the deities are moved to their respective winter abodes: Kedarnath to Ukhimath, Badrinath to Joshimath, Gangotri to Mukhba, and Yamunotri to Kharsali. These winter shelters remain accessible year-round, allowing devotees to visit even outside the main season.

If you’re planning a Chardham tour, ensure your package includes all four shrines – Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri – to experience the complete spiritual journey.
