Ruinsara Lake Trek
Ruinsara Lake is a pristine glacial lake located at the base of Kalanag (Black Peak) at an altitude of about 3,500 meters. Steeped in legends from the Mahabharata, the lake is considered sacred and lies close to the headwaters of the Supin River.
Situated within Govind National Park, the trek passes through untouched meadows, dense alpine pastures, and rich Himalayan biodiversity. Surrounded by towering mountains, Ruinsara Lake offers stunning views of the Swargarohini Range, Bandarpoonch, and Black Peak, making it a rewarding trek for nature and adventure lovers.

Itinerary
Drive: 210 km, 7-10 hours.
Activity: Arrive at Dehradun Railway Station by 6:30 AM for the scenic drive to Sankri, a quaint village in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary. The journey offers views of the Tons River.
Stay: Guest house/homestay in Sankri.
Drive: 12 km to Taluka (1 hour).
Trek: 12-14 km, 4-6 hours.
Activity: A short drive to Taluka, the starting point of the trek. The trail goes through dense forests of pine and walnut, past waterfalls and the Supin River, to the campsite at Seema, opposite the ancient village of Osla.
Stay: Tents/campsite at Seema/Cheludgad.
Trek: 7-10 km, 3-4 hours.
Activity: Trek through beautiful dense forests and across wooden bridges to the large, undulating meadows of Devsu Bugyal, a stunning camping spot with views of Kala Nag (Black Peak).
Stay: Tents/campsite at Devsu Bugyal.
Trek: 10-12 km, 5-7 hours.
Activity: The trail ascends through rhododendron and birch trees. Ruinsara Lake is a sacred, pristine high-altitude lake nestled in a flat grassy plain, surrounded by majestic snow-capped peaks including Swargarohini and Bandarpoonch.
Stay: Tents/campsite near Ruinsara Lake or a nearby camp like Rainbasera (camping isn’t always allowed at the lake’s edge due to environmental concerns).
Activity: A rest day to explore the beautiful surroundings of the lake, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, or hike towards the base of Swargarohini or Black Peak.
Trek: 12 km, 5-6 hours.
Activity: Retrace the path back to the Devsu Bugyal campsite, enjoying the views from a new perspective.
Stay: Tents/campsite at Devsu Bugyal.
Trek: 17-18 km to Taluka, 6-7 hours.
Drive: 12 km to Sankri.
Activity: A long descent through the villages of Seema and Gangad to Taluka, followed by a jeep ride back to Sankri.
Stay: Guest house/homestay in Sankri.
Drive: 210 km, 7-8 hours.
Activity: After breakfast, drive back to Dehradun, arriving by evening. It is advisable to book onward travel for the next day.
